Lamborghini normally lets its models age a little before it endows them with extra performance in the shape of an SV (SuperVeloce) version – the Murcielago waited eight years, the Aventador waited four. But these spy shots suggest that Lamborghini is preparing a more hardcore version of the Huracan supercar, much sooner than anticipated.
It's not been long since the Italian firm introduced the first rear-wheel-drive Hurucan, with a slight power deficit compared to the standard car. This prototype would seem to be taking the bhp count in the other direction. No specifications are known yet so we don't know if this is a rear-drive or four-wheel-drive model, but what we can see is that the exterior is extensively modified over the standard car.
The most striking feature is undoubtedly the huge rear wing, but it's complimented by lashings of carbon fibre and the widened wheel arches call to mind Lambo's mad Huracan GT3 racing car. That adds another possibility – this car could either be the lightened SV version we've seen with other Lamborghini models, or it could be a road-going version of the GT3 racer.
The standard Hurucan already produces a hefty 602bhp, but if this is a true SV version we'd expect a boost. The Murcielago SV, for example, received an extra 30bhp over the standard car, while the Aventador SV was blessed with an extra 60bhp. A power boost like this could catapult the Huracan way past the Audi R8 with which it shares some of its DNA.
The car we see in these pictures looks to be a lot closer to production than most test mules we see, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's close to release. As the rear-drive Huracan is set for a 2017 release, we might see this new model follow close after.
