The 2016 small premium coupe race is on. We've just driven the new Mercedes C-Class Coupe, Audi's next A5 is on the way, and Lexus will also launch its new RC Coupe range. But Infiniti is also getting in on the act with the Q60, which we've now spotted for the first time undisguised.
Nissan's premium division showed us a preview of the sleek two-door with the Q60 concept at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show. Now a source has told us it is 'highly likely' that next year's US event will show the finished article.
Although the production car is slightly toned-down from the concept car, the overall shape remains the same. The front-end is reminiscent of the Q50 saloon, but from the windscreen back its low roofline and rising shoulders give it a more athletic look. We haven't seen the interior yet, but we can expect it to be very similar to the concept's cabin.
No powertrain details have been given out yet, but look closely at the side of these images and you'll spot "3.0t" badging, suggesting the launch engine will be the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 from the concept. Power output is unconfirmed, but expect around 400bhp given the 3.5-litre V6 Hybrid produces 364bhp.
If the Q60 is to succeed in Europe, however, a range of smaller output turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will need to be available. We'll bring you the full details when we head out to Detroit.
