The Zarooq Motors Sand Racer has been revealed at an event in Dubai. It's an attempt by the UAE-based manufacturer to combine a sporty coupe and a tough sand-blasting off-roader.
It's a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive car with a 3.5-litre V6 producing 304bhp and 371Nm of torque, although higher-powered variants could get at much as 500bhp. The bodywork is made of fibreglass, so it weights just 1,050kg.
That means performance will be strong on the road, but that's not what this car is designed for - the clue is in the name. The Sand Racer is aimed at those who want to go racing in the desert, so it features off-road focused suspension and tyres and racing harnesses.
It's not a stripped-out racer, though, as it's also meant for road use. Inside you'll find an LCD sceen, speaker system, air-conditioning and even a cupholder.
Zarooq Motors has even bought a patch of land near Dubai to start a one-make race series with the car. A production version will be revealed in January 2016, with the car going on sale later in the year.
