2016 is a big year for Mercedes. We've got a number of big Merc debuts to look forward to including the new E-Class, SL facelift and S-Class cabrio, and now we've also spotted the latter's smaller brother, the 2016 C-Class Cabriolet.
The convertible C-Class is not expected to make a full production debut until at least the Geneva Motor Show in March, but our spies have captured it in all its glory with very little disguise. The BMW 4-Series convertible rival can be seen here with its roof partially deployed and the mechanism exposed.
Unlike its rival from Munich, Mercedes has shunned the trend for folding hard-tops and gone for a fabric roof arrangement. In these images we can see both red and black cloth used, and as you'd expect its styled to look like a mini S-Class Cabriolet.
The rear deck is clearly shorter than its luxury big brother, however, and other than the roofline the profile is identical to the C-Class Coupe. The spyshots show a glimpse of the interior, which will remain unchanged and offer Mercedes separate tablet-style infotainment system but rear space could be reduced by the folding roof.
At launch we can expect the familiar range of one (non-AMG) turbo petrol and three diesels, while a C300 BlueTec diesel hybrid could also be offered. Performance and efficiency is likely to suffer slightly due to the extra weight of body strengthening required.
As for a fire-breathing 503bhp AMG variant? We've also seen that in camouflage earlier in the year, so we can expect it to launch later on in the summer of 2016.
