As more and more news of what we'll see at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show emerges, SsangYong has announced two fresh debuts. We'll see the production version of the longer Tivoli XLV crossover, and a development SUV that debuts a mild hybrid powertrain.
The Tivoli XLV will be based largely on the XLV Air concept we saw at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. The company says "extremely favourable feedback" from the concept spurred a decision to put it into production alongside the standard Tivoli.
From the rear doors forward it's identical to the regular Tivoli, with the same 2,600mm wheelbase. But from the C-Pillar back it's all change, with 235mm of extra bodywork giving it a huge 720-litre boot. A seven-seat option was initially rumoured but isn't confirmed as yet.
Also SsangYong's stand we'll see a development concept called the SIV-2 (Smart Interface Vehicle). It's a midsize premium SUV concept that's said to "explore the emotional interface between the driver and car". It features a 1.5-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine with a 10kw electric motor and 500Wh lithium ion battery pack, creating a 48V mild hybrid.
The Korean firm claims the SIV-2 has a modular chassis that can be developed to feature full hybrid, plug-in and full electric powertrains. No production intention has been revealed as yet, however.
