VW has confirmed that a 306bhp Golf GTI Clubsport S will debut at the Worthsee tuning festival next week. It will become the most powerful version of the hot hatch to wear the GTI badge and will launch as a limited edition model in the autumn.
The Clubsport S will feature a tuned version of the current 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo from the standard 217bhp GTI. VW is remaining tight-lipped on specific details – to be announced at the Worthersee show on 4 May – but has said a driving profile set up for the Nürburgring will feature.
From this, we can also assume there will be some additional weight saving measures over the regular Clubsport to further boost performance. More liberal use of lightweight materials, a new exhaust system and removal of equipment such as air-con could be on the cards.
We can also expect the Clubsport S to feature a unique suspension and damper setup to accompany its track-focused nature, while larger brakes and a bespoke tyre compound could also be added.
There's no word on price, but as the regular Clubsport starts from £31,125 expect a significant premium. More details will be announced at the car's debut at the Worthersee net week.
