Volkswagen will breathe new life into its Amarok pick-up, with a facelifted version due on sale in the UK before the end of the year.
The first official sketches show how the Amarok will target premium buyers with an updated interior. The brand is claiming to have comprehensively reworked its ‘inner values’, with a modified instrument panel designed to provide a more striking appearance.

The athletic front also shows how the Amarok will be brought into line with the latest Volkswagen design. While we only have a set of early sketches available at the moment, the revised headlights and updated grille are clear to see. There’s a more stylish scuff plate below the bumper, and beefier alloy wheels housed in similar bulging wheelarches. At the back, a new LED pattern is visible in the light clusters.
With a length of 5.25m and a width of 2.23m, the pick-up’s dimensions are to stay the same. As before, it’s been engineered to combine car like on-road manners with full off-road capability.
With the pick-up sector proving to be more popular than ever at the moment, Volkswagen will be hoping the facelifted Amarok can steal sales away from the Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200 and Isuzu D-Max. A new Toyota Hilux is also on the way, while Renault, Fiat, Mercedes and Peugeot/Citroen have models in the pipeline.
Prices and specification haven’t been announced, but we’ll have more information on the new Amarok in due course. A full-production debut is expected this summer.
