Jaguar Land Rover has set up a new business to trial a car sharing scheme across Europe, Asia and North America. Dubbed InMotion, the technology start-up will also create apps and 'on-demand-services' to help overcome modern transport issues.
In an effort to rival companies such as ZipCar and the growth of private hire taxi firms such as Uber, JLR will conduct "real world testing" across of services "such as car sharing and car ownership schemes". The app development is crucial to this, allowing users to utilise mobility services from their smartphone.

The Financial Times is reporting that ex-Google employees are consulting with InMotion's in-house team of 30 to help develop various schemes. The initial priority is to research new mobility and tech ideas and trial ones which are deemed to have the most potential.
Several companies, including Daimler (owners of Mercedes-Benz), BMW and General Motors have launched or invested in car-sharing companies recently as car ownership in town and cities falls. Most recently, PSA (Peugeot, Citroen and DS) has announced plans both to enter the US market and partner with those offering mobility solutions.
