Images have surfaced online that claim to show the interior of the new Peugeot 3008, featuring a large LCD screen in place of dials. These images show that the concept takes a very similar form to Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, which debuted on the latest TT.
The interior styling on the leaked images takes strong inspiration from the Peugeot Quartz Concept we saw at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The virtual LCD i-Cockpit is the main focus of the cabin, although unlike Audi, Peugeot continues to place the dials high up on the dash, above a small, squared-off steering wheel. This is a layout many customers have complained about, as they struggle to see the bottom of the dials over the rim of the wheel. Still, with the customisation on offer from a fully LCD instrument display, we can expect to see some different dial layouts to suit drivers of all heights.
Elsewhere in the cabin, there’s a large central infotainment screen, mouted BMW-style on top of the centre console. It sits above a row of retro toggle switches, an electronic parking brake, and what looks like a stylish gear selector for the automatic gearbox.
The second-generation Peugeot 3008 is expected to surface later this year before a release in 2017, with more of a focus on crossover SUV styling, rather than the boxy MPV look of the current model. We’re expecting it to sit atop PSA Peugeot Citroen’s EMP2 platform which underpins a wide array of the firm’s cars, including the Citroen C4 Picasso and Peugeot 308. This would allow it to use a wide array of petrol and diesel engines, and we're anticipating a hybrid model like the previous 3008 e-HDi Hybrid4.
