The Mercedes E-Class has arrived, but the German brand is now forging ahead with testing the drop-top Cabriolet variant, as seen in our latest spy shots.
The upcoming E-Class Cabriolet will use the same platform as the latest saloon. That means it will share the same wheelbase and engine range, so there could also be a hot Mercedes-AMG E63 Cabriolet version featuring a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with nearly 600bhp.

The heavily-disguised car in our pictures doesn't give much away, but you can make out the long front doors and smaller side windows, plus the shape of the soft-top roof. Disguise on the bonnet and boot surfaces indicate that there could be minor changes to those panels, too.
In-car tech will be carried over from the saloon as well, including the long dual-screen display that runs across the dash, the plush seats and ambient lighting. It's also likely to get the saloon's autnomous driving mode, which can be used to make driving on the motorway much easier.
Expect to see the official launch of the E-Class Cabriolet at some point in 2017, possibly in March, before going on sale later in the year.
