Nissan event reveals future tech for the brand, with trials starting on a vehicle-to-grid system and home energy storage

Nissan is looking ahead to the future of vehicles, and has announced some new technology to bring that closer to reality. The Nissan Futures event is being held today in central London, and has hosted three key tech reveals for the Japanese brand.

The first is a new system for electric vehicles, like Nissan's own Leaf, to put energy back into the national grid. Nissan has teamed up with Enel, an energy provider, to start the first vehicle-to-grid trial, using 100 Leafs and e-NV200 vans.

The trial will see the installation of 'V2G' units at locations convenient to owners of the 100 cars, where they can proceed to sell energy back to the grid. It might be fairly insignificant now, but Nissan says that in the future it could revolutionise the power systems of the world.

Nissan has also announced a new energy storage system for the home, called xStorage. It can store energy, either from solar panels or from cheaper night-time tariffs, and then release it for use when needed. It's designed to provide power in an emergency too, if the grid went down.

Finally the brand has also released a look at the fuel station of the future, with energy coming from renewable sources and being put back into the grid by car owners. You can see the concept in the video above.

We're at the Nissan Futures event today, so stay tuned for all the latest details...
