Land Rover is celebrating its six-millionth production model at the Shanghai Motor Show this week. The occasion marks 67 years since the British manufacturer built its first model, and sales are now stronger than ever.
The landmark car in question is a white Range Rover LWB Vogue SE and it's been put on display at this year's Shanghai Motor Show. Despite the importance of this car alterations are a subtle affair, certainly when compared to Startech's bonkers Range Rover pick-up.
It gets nothing more than a new puddle light projector from the wing mirrors. The neat feature, available already on the standard Range Rover, is now inscribed with the phrase 'six million' - demonstrating the luxury SUV's significance.
The same logo was emblazoned on the wall of the production plant in Solihull, West Midlands, where Land Rover's range of 4x4s and SUVs have been assembled since 1948, a 67-year history marked at the end of this month. The Range Rover itself also celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.
Sales have increased dramatically in the last decade with its merging with Jaguar in 2008, in which Land Rover was bought out almost entirely by Indian automaker Tata. One third of the six-million sales have been in the last eight years, helped by new models such as the Evoque, Range Rover Sport and Discovery Sport.
