2016 Smart ForTwo cabrio snapped in bad weather

Smart ForTwo cabrio 2015 spies front

Smart's new convertible city car is spotted tackling a rainstorm aheady of likely late 2015 debut

Smart's third-generation ForTwo has gone topless, but in these rainy spyshots the roof has stayed firmly shut. The dinky city car will get an electric fabric hood much as before, and its expected to be unveiled towards the end of 2015.

The distinctive styling of the 2.69-metre long runabout remains largely unchanged from the hardtop car that went on sale at the start of this year. The only marked change is the cloth top, which extends back to the edge of the tailgate. The standard car gets a pull-out rear window, but this one will be fixed.

The roof, likely with an electric mechanism, will be offered in a wide variety of colours to complement the ForTwo's already bold paint options. The spyshots show a neat rear spoiler built into the hood, that looks like it folds back with it.

Mechanically it'll be business as usual, with the underfloor-mounted 0.9-litre three cylinder petrol engine in either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged form. It shares its underpinnings and suspension with the ForFour and Twingo superminis, and comes with a five-speed manual or new dual-clutch automatic.

We predict the ForTwo cabrio will command around a £1,500 premium over the standard car, meaning a pricetag of around £12,500 is a reasonable estimate.
