In a surprise move, the new Chevrolet Camaro received its European debut at the 2015 Goodwood Festival Of Speed. Bosses confirmed that the all-new Camaro will hit Europe in the second quarter of 2016, while power will come from either a traditional V8, or in a first for Chevy’s sports car, a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder.

The new model looks similar to its predecessor, but a redesign under the skin has saved 90kg in weight to improve performance, while the revised interior features an improved layout and improved build quality.

The V8-powered Camaro uses the same 455bhp engine as the Corvette Stingray, making it the most powerful Camaro ever. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre turbo model has 275bhp, which helps it sprint from 0-60mph in six seconds. Both cars are offered with eight-speed auto gearboxes, while the V8 also has a six-speed manual.

The new Camaro will go on sale in Europe in 2016, and when it does, it will take on its arch-rival Ford Mustang in Europe. However Chevrolet parent firm General Motors has no plans to build a right-hand-drive Camaro, while a sole UK distributor for Chevrolet models will also limit its appeal.
