Mercedes has announced its wild G500 4x4² concept will enter series production from December, priced from €226,100 in Germany (£161,861).
Based on the concept which debuted at the Geneva Motor show in March, the G500 4x4² is also heavily influenced by the G63 AMG 6X6 and like its 6-wheeled cousin, it is designed primarily for off-road use.
The G500 4x4² sticks with wider tracks and jacked up suspension from the 6x6, which gives the off-roader 450mm of ground clearance – more than double that of a standard G-Class – and a wading depth of 1,000mm. Other features include 22-inch alloy wheels, dual spring and damper struts as well as adjustable damping.
Unlike, the G63 AMG 6X6, the G500 4x4² is powered by the new 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 from the AMG GT. Detuned slightly to produce 416bhp, the it gets from 0-62 in 7.4 seconds, while a top speed has yet to be confirmed.
There is currently no confirmation on whether the G500 4x4² will be made available in the UK. Since the G-Class was introduced in 1979, Mercedes has sold more than 250,000 versions of the SUV worldwide.
