Subaru is hoping to make waves in the family estate class with its new Levorg GT, set to hit UK dealers in September after its Geneva Motor Show debut back in March. Essentially the replacement for the outgoing Legacy Tourer, it will launch with only one engine choice: a 1.6-litre Boxer petrol engine with 168bhp.
Although buyers abroad get the choice of a 296bhp 2.0-litre turbo, Subaru has claimed it’s unlikely to appear in the UK. We do expect the Levorg to eventually feature the 2.0-Litre boxer diesel found in the current Outback, which in that guise is capable of 46mpg. The turbocharged 1.6-litre Boxer unit is all-new for the Levorg, however, and is mated with the updated version of the firm’s six-speed ‘Lineartronic’ CVT transmission.
Precious few details are given in terms of pricing and specs, but we can expect the range to kick off from around £25,000, putting it in line with cars such as the Volvo V60 and Mazda 6 Tourer. Blind spot detection and rear vehicle alert make up the latest passive and active safety technology present and Subaru’s engineers are promising that the Levorg will focus on refinement, with a cabin that includes the latest factory-fit touchscreen infotainment system along with sports seats unique to that model.
The first customer cars will be arriving in the UK in September, and we won’t hear more details or prices until closer towards that date.
