It's easy to spend a fortune on both cleaning and protecting the outside of your car, with an endless list of products on the market. But to guard the interior from stains and messes, you need to invest in a fabric protection spray.
These sprays form a layer over the fabric and prevent stains from becoming permanently ingrained in the surface, which could damage the value of your model when it’s time to sell. We’ve put seven of the top options to the test here.
How we tested them
We divided a car seat into sections and sprayed the different protectors on to it, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Then, we attempted to stain it – using coffee, cola and butter. The products scored on how well the seat resisted a permanent mark after treatment.
It was also important how easy the application process was and if it left a nasty smell – as chemical solutions sometimes do – while we also judged bottle size. Finally, we considered price, taken from several online sources as we went to press.
Verdict
It's a win for Gyeon, thanks to a brilliant all-round performance on every test we could throw at it. As a budget option, though, Scotchgard Protector Multi-Purpose is very tough to beat. Third place goes to 303 High Tech Fabric Guard, which was good but couldn’t quite match the best.
