Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced the prices and specs for the new VW Caddy van range.

VW's second best-selling van after the Transporter will have a starting price of £13,500 (excl VAT and OTR charges) - that's for the C20 Starline short wheelbase model. Orders will be taken later this month with the first UK customer deliveries arriving in September.

Three trim levels are available to choose from: Starline, Trendline and Highline.  Each of these will be available on two wheelbases, with the short wheel base offering 3.2m3 of load space. The Maxi version adds another 469mm to the short wheelbase's 1,781mm, and increases load capacity to 4.2m3.

The entry level Starline model will come with electric windows and mirrors, a five-inch touchscreen Composition Colour DAB radio system, bluetooth compatibility, and a lockable glovebox. Safety features will include front, side and curtain airbags, a new-post collision braking system and a seatbelt reminder.

The Trendline model starts from £15,670 and adds to the Starline specification with full wheel covers, body coloured bumpers, handles and wing mirrors, rear parking sensors, cruise control, a multi-function display, drivers lumbar support, under-seat storage and sun visors with vanity mirrors.

Sitting at the top of the range, the Highline model will begin from £16,650, building on the Trendline models specification with alloy wheels, front fog lights, daytime running lights, climatic air conditioning, heated front windscreen, automatic dimming rear-view mirror, Thatcham category 1 alarm and rain sensing wipers with intermittent control.

An extensive list of safety and convenience systems will also be offered, such as Park assist with rear-view reversing camera, High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Assist and City Emergency Braking.

The Caddy will be offered with three 2.0-litre EU5 engines from launch, ranging in power output from 75 PS, 102 PS and 150 PS.

All models are available with a combination of five- or six-speed manual transmissions, with a six-or seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox available as an option for the higher powered engines. BlueMotion Technology (or 'BMT') is available for all Caddy models, which will include the fitment of a start/stop system and battery regeneration to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. A standalone BlueMotion variant will form part of the range, using the 102 PS engine to achieve 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

The addition of passenger-carry models will extend the Caddy range in July, when the pricing and details will be announced with first deliveries also due in September.
