Nissan X-Trail price drops with new 1.6 DIG-T engine option

New Nissan X-Trail 2014 front

New entry-level 1.6 DIG-T 163 petrol engine brings X-Trail SUV down to £21,995, and is available to order now

Nissan's X-Trail compact SUV has become more affordable thanks to the addition of a new entry-level petrol engine. Kicking off from £21,995, the X-Trail with the new turbocharged 1.6-litre DIG-T 163 unit is £1,460 cheaper than before. The car is available to order now for deliveries in August.

The new four-cylinder engine is the same one found in the smaller Qashqai, producing 161bhp and 240Nm of torque. Despite the extra kerbweight of the X-Trail in comparison, it's still capable of 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. Fuel economy is up to 45.6mpg combined (but reduced to 44.1mpg with n-tec and Tekna spec), while CO2 emissions are as low as 145g/km.

It sits alongside the sole other engine in the X-Trail range, the 1.6 dCI diesel. The DIG-T is only available in two-wheel drive format, though, and a six-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission choice offered at launch. Start/stop comes as standard, while the new petrol engine is available across the entire X-Trail range, rising to £28,145 for top-spec Tekna trim.
