Efficient Skoda Superb GreenLine gets over 75mpg

Skoda reveals most efficient model in new Superb range heading to Frankfurt Show, with 76.3mpg promised

Skoda has revealed a fleet-friendly ‘GreenLine’ edition of the new Superb (the firm’s own take on VW’s Bluemotion). It aims to bring increased efficiency without adversely affecting the drive.

Up until now the most efficient choice for the new Superb has been the base 1.6TDI, which emits 105 g/km and achieves 70.6 mpg. But Skoda’s efficient new GreenLine sees tweaks to reduce that to just 95 g/km and 76.3 mpg. The Czech firm claims that on a full tank of 66 litres the Superb GreenLine can travel over 1,100 miles.

This has been made possible thanks to longer gear ratios on the 6-speed manual transmission (the automatic DSG isn’t an option), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and styling upgrades with aerodynamics in mind, including a 15mm lower chassis. The stop-start and brake energy recovery systems have been carried over from the standard diesel model.

Further differences include low rolling resistance tyres on 16-inch wheels, tinted windows from the B-pillar back and GreenLine badging. The tailgate spoiler (or rooftop spoiler on the estate model) helps lower the drag coefficient value to 0.263 for the saloon and 0.275 for the estate.

Skoda hasn’t released performance details for the Superb Greenline, although the longer ratios don’t affect the 0-62mph time on the VW Passat Bluemotion sister model. Expect a price premium of around £1,000 over the standard Superb 1.6 TDI’s £20,040 pricetag.
