Honda could be preparing a new hardcore road racer, one that could rival the Ariel Atom or Caterham Seven. The Honda 2&4 concept will take centre stage on the brand’s Frankfurt Motor Show stand, representing the company’s ‘continuous effort to create a more exciting user experience’.
Details are scarce at the moment, and all we have to go on is a heavily darkened teaser image shot from above. However, by lightening the shot it’s clear that this new 2&4 concept is no ordinary road car. On the left and right of the picture you can see the exposed wheels – reminiscent of a single-seat race car.
The concept car has been designed as a collaboration of Honda’s motorcycle design centre in Asaka and the maker’s automobile design centre in Wako, Japan. The cabinless structure is set to provide an ‘immersive driving environment’ with ‘the freedom of a motorcycle and the manoeuvrability of a car.’
Power and torque figures have not been released, but are likely to be confirmed by the time the car debuts in Frankfurt. However, with Honda’s history of high revving petrol engines and its recent desire to dominate the front-wheel drive Nurburgring lap record, we can expect some pretty impressive numbers.
The 2&4 lands just weeks after first deliveries of the new Honda Civic Type R, and comes towards the end of a busy year for the brand. It’s not all good news though, as rumours have started circulating of production delays for the new NSX – which has now been pushed back until spring 2016.
