Porsche Boxster is due for 2016 facelift and here it is ~ station of gear

Porsche's mid-life updates for its Boxster spotted on the road. The roadster is set to get four-cylinder engines for the first time.

Porsche's Boxster range is set to receive a nip-and-tuck for the 2016 model year; and our spies have caught the revised car with only minimal camouflage. The two-seater sports car will now get four-cylinder turbocharged engines for the first time, and is set be revealed at the start of next year.

Although it's not officially confirmed, several sources at Porsche have told us that, as with the Cayman facelift spotted last year, the tuneful flat-six engines will bow out across most of the Boxster range. They will be downsized and replaced by 'boxer' flat-four turbo units in a bid to meet Europe-wide emissions targets.

Power outputs can only be estimated, but expect the addition of forced induction to bring notable increases across the range. When we spied the Porsche 911 facelift earlier this year, a Porsche spokesman all but confirmed turbcharging will be brought in and said it should be thought of as "power-upsizing" rather than engine downsizing.

From that we can predict at least 250bhp from the 'base' Boxster and Cayman (replacing the 2.7), with around 300bhp from the 'S' variant and over 350bhp from the GTS. The biggest news for purists is that the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder will probably keep their naturally-aspirated flat sixes for now, fitting in with the more back-to-basics, hardcore approach.

As for the other changes to the Boxster range, subtle tweaks to the bumper, intake and light designs will be the extent of the exterior revisions. Inside, there will be upgraded materials and Porsche's latest touchscreen infotainment system, but it's not clear yet whether the new driving mode selector seen in the 911 will be added.
