The Caravan Club has announced its winners for the prestigious Towcar of the Year awards 2016. Land Rover take an overall victory with the Discovery, while VW also dominate many of the categories.
It might be getting on a bit, but the venerable Discovery in HSE LUX spec impressed the seven driving judges and took home the ultimate gong, also winningn the 'over £50,000' and 'all-wheel drive over 1,800kg' category.
Other winners included the MG 6 S DTI-TECH in the 'under £17,500' category and the Renault Captur Dynamique Nav dCi 110. Volkswagen also featured across the spectrum, with the Jetta, Passat and Touareg SUV picking up category awards.
Unlike regular car of the year awards, the Caravan Club's industry leading tests examine towing performance over the testing circuit at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, and also assesses cars for their ‘caravanability’. This measures how well they suit a caravanner’s needs – in terms of storage capability, ease of attaching a caravan and useful information in the handbook.
We'll publish the full test in detail very soon, so keep your eyes on the front page.
