Not content with a total of six SUVs in its lineup, BMW is pushing forward with the much-rumoured X2 SUV. Seen here in our spyshots for the first time, it's tipped for release at the start of 2017.
It was a safe bet we'd eventually see an X2, given that the other the numbers one through to seven already feature in the Munich firm's SUV lineup. Moving into the still relatively fresh small SUV-coupe segment, the X2 will (unsurprisingly) sit between the X1 and X3 in the range and provides the first real premium rival for the forthcoming Mercedes GLC Coupe.

Expected to be slightly wider and longer than the X1, and with a curvy coupe-like roofline, the X2 will also join more mainstream entrants to this market, including an expected spin-off from the Mazda Koeru concept seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year.
Details are scarce for now, but expect the familiar four-cylinder (and maybe even three cylinder) turbocharged petrol and diesel engines in the X1 and 2 Series to head across. Considering the X2's sportier intentions, an 'X235i' could be on the cards with a turbocharged straight-six, and we could eventually see an X2 M.
