Mercedes has unveiled a teaser shot of its forward-thinking Tokyo Vision concept in advance of the car's Tokyo Motor Show debut. It showcases Mercedes’ vision of the future of driverless luxury travel, and will be unveiled in full at the show.
The unique shape hints at a practical multi-purpose vehicle and it follows in a long line of Mercedes Vision concept cars that have revealed technological advances that went on to feature in future Mercedes models. Details are scarce so far, with this teaser image posted on Merc’s Twitter account with the tagline “luxurious, autonomous and progressive”.
Based on this image itself, the Tokyo Vision concept is likely to be a reinterpretation of the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept. The F 015 previewed Mercedes take on the future of autonomous driving with a mobile living space. It featured a lounge-like interior with four rotating chairs that turn to face each other.
The Tokyo Vision concept has a rakish profile with pronounced wheel arches and no windows rearward of the B-pillars. This is likely to allow the installation of internal interactive screens to show images from a camera or other media as we saw on the F 015.
The F 015 concept was powered by a hydrogen fuel cell drive system, and this concept is expected to preview an updated version of that same powertrain.
