The Nissan Juke is now five years old, and the Sunderland-built crossover has been a smash hit with over 700,000 sold so far. To celebrate in style, the Japanese firm enlisted a British artist to create a life-size version with only folded paper.
Using the ancient Japanese tradition of origami to create the Juke, artist Owen Gildersleeve folded over 2,000 pieces of paper and fastened them together to create the intricate sculpture. The design took more than 200 hours to create.
Owen claims the sculpture "represents the thousands of people who helped bring the Nissan Juke into reality and the thousands who continue to do so right here in the UK.”. It coincides with 'World Origami Day' on the 11th of November.
Nissan earlier this year confirmed its commitment to manufacturing in the UK, announcing the next-generation Juke will be built in Sunderland. The decision means an investment of £100million into the plant to see it beyond 2020.
