The next Subaru Impreza saloon will make its debut at this year's LA Motor Show, with a teaser pic previewing the new four-door's shape ahead of the wraps coming off next week.
New spy images also show a disguised prototype for the Impreza saloon (or sedan, as it's known in the US) undergoing testing ahead of its launch. It's clear a sleeker shape will be used to help the model compete with the Mazda 3 saloon.
The previous model's boxy profile has been given a sleek makeover, with stretched-back headlamps and a coupe-like roofline like that found on the Vauxhall Insignia. A neat rear spoiler can also be seen on the teaser image, but expect something much more lairy for the hot WRX model.
The design was also previewed by a concept version of the next Impreza hatch, unveiled at the Tokyo show last month. Expect design cues from this to make their way over to the four-door, although its not clear yet whether the UK will receive both bodystyles.
The only engine offered for the current Impreza in the UK is a 112bhp naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol that claims 44mpg and emits 147g/km of CO2. Expect a completely fresh unit for the new car, with the possibility of a diesel option, although the company will likely persist with the Lineartronic CVT gearbox option.
This being a Subaru, four-wheel drive is likely to be an option – although front-wheel-drive variants will allow the necessary efficiency boost.
