The Subaru XV has been given a handful of upgrades for 2016, including some more efficient engines and a subtly different look. It's available to order now at the same price as the previous model, starting from £21,995.

The facelift includes some changes to the nose of the XV, with new headlights, a more rugged-looking bumper design and new fog lamp surrounds. There are also new LED taillights, a boot spoiler and fresh alloy wheel designs.

Inside there is a new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system including sat-nav and voice control. This system can also be used with the iPhone's Siri function, so users have extra control over their phone via voice commands while driving. The screen can display the standard reversing camera's video output too.

Other changes inside include new piano black trim, contrast stitching, an extra USB port and a new instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel.

Both the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines have been updated, too. Both are available with a CVT automatic or a manual gearbox, which has been updated with longer ratios for better economy.

The diesel engine now manages 52.3mpg with emissions of 141g/km of CO2, but there's no preformance loss. With 145bhp and 350Nm of torque, it goes from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds. The 148bhp petrol engine now emits 151g/km and returns 43.5mpg, a 2 per cent improvement.

The Subaru XV range includes SE and SE Premium trim levels, with prices starting at £21,995 for the petrol SE.
