The all-new Subaru Impreza will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in a couple of weeks, the Japanese manufacturer has revealed.
Subaru previewed the 2017 Impreza with a pair of concepts late last year, showing a five-door hatchback at last autumn’s Tokyo motor show and then following that up with a saloon at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Earlier this week the firm’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, revealed an all-new platform that’s likely to underpin its family hatchback and a string of additional models.
An official statement accompanying a teaser image said that the new Impreza will be “the first of Subaru’s next-generation strategic vehicles envisioned in FHI’s mid-term management vision “Prominence 2020”. That means the car will showcase engines and chassis technology that can then feature on the next generations of cars like the Forester and XV.
The new Impreza is likely to retain Subaru’s trademark all-wheel drive across the range, as well as flat-four ‘boxer’ engines - petrol and diesel - that feature cylinder deactivation technology to improve efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. It’s likely to reach UK dealers before the end of this year, with prices starting at around £17,500.
