The Vauxhall Viva Rocks won't appear in the UK, but Europe will get SUV-styled version of Karl budget city car

Opel, the global brand that sells the cars we know as Vauxhalls in the UK, has revealed a new version of its smallest car, the Opel Karl Rocks.

In the UK the Karl is called the Vauxhall Viva, and the Rocks nametag - also used on the Adam - denotes that this is a slightly jacked-up, SUV-styled version of the budget city car. Vauxhall will not offer a Viva Rocks, however, so UK buyers will only be able to buy the Viva in its existing standard form.

The Karl Rocks gets an 18mm higher ride height, more rugged-looking bumpers and wheel arches, plus some roof rails and new 15-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there's some exclusive cloth seats and sill plates to give it a tougher feel as well.

There are no details on powertrain or prices yet, but it's likely to get the same 74bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine and a choice of either manual or automatic gearboxs. It's possible that a turbocharged 1.0-litre engine, that will also make it into the Vauxhall Viva, could be made available in the car.
