Henrik Fisker is set to return to the car industry with a follow-up car to 2012's Fisker Karma. The new model will be an all-electric rival for the Tesla Model S, and will launch in the second half of 2017.
Fisker told Bloomberg that his new venture "has the technology that nobody else has. And there is nobody even close to what we are doing out there." It's expected that Fisker is talking about all-electric range (around 400 miles) and more performance, thanks to lighter batteries - although the Tesla Model S' 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds close to the limits of grip, so cars can't go much faster than that on normal tarmac.
Fisker hasn't released any details on the car, but has indicated a desire for it to look good - a theme that runs through his previous design work on cars such as the Aston Martin DB9. Expect it to be priced to compete with higher-end Tesla models at around £100,000.
The plan also includes a smaller, more affordable model for the new Fisker brand as well, however. It will cost around £30,000 and have a longer all-electric range than its rivals, according to the report. He also said that Fisker will be looking to sell its tech to other manufacturers, in a bid to improve its mass-market potential.
Fisker Automotive declared bankruptcy in February 2014, and was sold off, but the Fisker brand itself was retained. That means the new Fisker, Inc. is able to continue trading under that name - and there's also a new branch called Fisker Nanotech to develop the battery tech.
