The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) – commonly known as the Detroit Auto Show - is the first major fixture on the car industry calendar, and the 2017 edition kicks off just after the turn of the New Year.
On 7 January the show begins with ‘The Gallery’ – a one-off evening at the MGM Detroit, where guests are treated to a showing of some of the world’s most exclusive supercars and luxury vehicles.
A day later on 8 January sees Automobili-D open. This part of the show is dedicated to the rapidly evolving landscape of automobile technology and mobility – autonomous vehicles and connected cars are big here.

Doors for the main show will open for the press on 9 January, and we’ll have a team in Detroit bringing you all the news, plus interviews and exclusive pictures.
Though the show is based in the States, it’s still an international showcase, and there’s always plenty of news and releases relevant for the UK market. Last year’s NAIAS saw the introduction of key cars like the new Mercedes E-Class and BMW M2, alongside bedroom posters such as the latest Porsche 911 Turbo and the Lexus LC 500 coupe.
Concept cars like the Kia Telluride and Audi h-tron quattro were also big crowd pleasers.
There's still time before the 2017 Detroit Motor Show kicks off and we’re still learning about the new cars that will be there, but we’ll be updating this page with fresh information as we get it so stay tuned...

Kia is currently drip-feeding information about a new performance saloon – likely to be production version of the Kia GT. The new car, seen in Kia’s latest teaser video as a fastback saloon with a promised 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds, is currently penned for a 8 January global reveal, so we expect it to appear on stage in Detroit on press day.

Lexus will debut its new flagship saloon to rival the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class at the 2017 Detroit show - an all new LS which will sit on the new GA-L luxury vehicle global architecture, shared with the new LC 500h coupe. Our spy shots are a decent indication of the car’s overall shape, but Lexus’ official teaser is better, hinting at the large spindle style grille found on the face of the new LS.
Mercedes E-Class Coupe

The 2016 edition of the Detroit Motor Show saw the introduction of the plush new Mercedes E-Class saloon, and in January Mercedes will take the wraps off a coupe version. The E-Class coupe will be a rival for the BMW 6 Series, and our spy shots plus leaked promotional images show that it’ll follow the S-Class coupe in terms of design, with new diagonal taillights and a curvy rear end, with no B-pillars either. The new model will share its platform with the saloon, meaning more interior space and a larger boot.

The Oasis is the latest crazy concept car from Swiss tuner Rinspeed, and while it’ll make its full debut in front of the technophile crowds at the Consumer Electronics Show a week before Detroit, it’s confirmed to appear at the NAIAS too. It’s a self-driving lounge, boasting a 5K curved display on the dashboard and even its own bonsai garden. It’s sure to be one of the most eye-catching concepts at the show.
