Citroen has revealed a new addition to its electric car and van range with the introduction of the E-Berlingo Multispace – an all-electric MPV that will go on sale in the UK this autumn.
Citroen already makes an electric version of the Berlingo – it’s the firm’s electrified van. Unsurprisingly, the more passenger friendly E-Berlingo Multispace borrows its van sibling’s electric drivertrain, but replaces the loading bay with a rear row of seats and gains side and rear windows. With the three seats in place, boot space comes in at 675-litres, though folding them flat opens up a 3,000-litre loading bay.
The E-Berlingo Multispace uses a 66bhp, 200Nm electric motor supplied with power from two individual battery packs mounted in the subframe either side of the rear axle. Together, these packs store 22.5kWh of charge.
Citroen claims the E-Berlingo Multispace has an all-electric range of 106 miles on the New European Driving Cycle – no change on the straight van variant. It is compliant with D/C rapid charging, so the batteries can be re-charged to 50 per cent of their capacity in 15 minutes or 80 per cent in half an hour when attached to a dedicated rapid charging point.
A full charge using a 16 A or Type 2 cable takes eight hours, while a standard domestic three-pin plug will get the job done in ten hours.
In tune with the Multispace’s passenger friendly image, it comes with smartphone app operated remote controls – the driver can pre-heat or cool the cabin, and remotely check the charge level too. In the cabin, a 7-inch infotainment setup with sat-nav, smartphone Mirror Link and Bluetooth connectivity can be equipped.
Citroen has revealed no price for the E-Berlingo Multispace, though a tag around the £21,750 pre-VAT cost of the Berlingo Electric van seems likely.
