Revealed at this week’s New York Motor Show, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk gets a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine producing a whopping 707bhp and 841Nm. That’s enough to take the off-roader from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds – the same as a Jaguar F-Type SVR R, and more than a second under the 0-62mph time for the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic.
While it might be the fastest of its class to 62mph, the Jeep’s top speed is 180mph, so the title of the world’s fastest SUV will still be held by the Bentley Bentayga W12. We needn’t remind you that the Bentley tops out at 187mph.
The Trackhawk gets an aggressive bodykit plus an uprated eight-speed automatic transmission with launch control, and Brembo brakes that can stop it from 60mph in just 114ft. The cabin meanwhile is fitted with Nappa leather and suede trim, active noise cancellation and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can also output dyno data ‘snapshots’ to a USB memory stick.
The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is due on sale in the US this autumn. UK sales are said to be likely, although a Jeep spokesman said the matter is still “under discussion”. So we’ll have to wait and see.
