Hyundai has a new crossover in the works, and the Korean manufacturer has revealed the first slither of official information about its upcoming Nissan Juke rival, which will make its debut this summer.
To be revealed in June ahead of going on sale in October, the new B-segment SUV will be called the Kona. While we’ve little else, a teaser image provided alongside the name reveal shows-off a headlamp design unlike anything currently in Hyundai’s product range, suggesting the Kona will usher in a fresh Hyundai design language.

The Kona will expand the Korean manufacturer’s SUV portfolio to three models in the UK. When it arrives in the autumn, it’ll be the smallest SUV in Hyundai’s range, sitting beneath both the Tucson and Santa Fe.
The name is a reference to the Kona district on the island of Hawaii. That’s all the information Hyundai will provide us with for now, but more is promised in the near future.
Our spy photographers have already spotted the new SUV out on the road. Those ultra-thin headlights teased by Hyundai are easy to pick out on the Kona, and they’ll sit above a large latticework grille, forming what appears to be a blunt, tough looking face.
The new car is likely to be based on the chassis of the existing i20, which is only two years into its life. It will probably get the latest engines from the new i30, though – a mix of turbocharged 1.0 three-cylinder and 1.4 four-cylinder petrol motors, and a 1.6 diesel offered in at least two states of tune.
