Spy shots reveal a four-door version of the BMW 2 Series coupe being tested

Spy photos have revealed a new four-door BMW 2 Series variant, called the GranCoupe, conducting development drives in Germany.

The shots taken of the camouflaged BMW reveal noticeable changes between this model and the existing 2 Series range. The most prominent difference is the two additional doors, making the car in question a four-door coupe and a fresh addition to the existing 2 Series bodystyle line-up. Rumours suggest that this edition will be front-wheel-drive with BMW moving away from their traditional rear-wheel-drive layout.

Earlier on this year, BMW released the limited edition M240i with a production run of just 750 units. The M2 also benefited from a facelift and it’s looking like the holy trinity is being completed by the rumoured 2 Series GranCoupe.

The ‘GranCoupe’ name has already appeared on the new 8 Series concept, which is set to launch next year. The 8 Series GranCoupe was one of the two variants alongside an 8 Series Convertible that helped revive the 8 Series name associated with the 90’s grand tourer.
