Aston Martin and Zagato team-up to create two new models, which can only be bought as a pair at a cost of £6million

Aston Martin will team up with Italian design house Zagato once again - and this time for one of its most exclusive collaborations yet.

In celebration of its centenary in 2019 Zagato will work with the British brand to produce two cars: the all-new DBS GT Zagato and the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation.

The former is based on the DBS Superleggera, but is wrapped in a completely new body. So far, only one teaser sketch of the front end has been revealed.

It looks to remain true to Zagato form: a huge grille dominates its face, while the lights look much slimmer and sharper than those on the regular DBS. The double bubble roof will remain but, Aston says, will feature in a fresh interpretation. Though we’ve yet to see any hint of the back end, Aston says that it’ll be be “dramatically truncated” relative to the DBS Superleggera.

The second model, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation, is a track-only, brand new example of the original racer that hit racetracks in 1958. It’s manufactured with a mix of classic techniques and modern technology: the body panels remain hand-beaten over a tubular chassis, but they’re digitally scanned to ensure perfect accuracy. As per the original, power comes from a 3.67-litre straight six engine. It sends its 340bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

While the DBS Zagato will be built at Aston Martin’s HQ in Gaydon, the Continuation will be assembled by Aston Martin Works: the firm’s restoration arm which will build the DB4 in the same Newport Pagnell plant as the original.

“The partnership between Aston Martin and Zagato is one of the most fruitful and enduring in the automotive world,” said Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer. “With Zagato celebrating its centenary next year, what better way to celebrate this landmark - and the long-standing bond between our two great companies - than creating these 19 pairs of cars. As an engineer I would always say my favourite Aston Martin is the next one, but I have to say I’m struggling to think of a finer two-car garage than this!”

Just 19 of each will be built, which matched the production run of the original DB4 GT Zagato, and makes the DBS Zagato the rarest of the modern day Aston Martin Zagatos. You can only buy them together, at a cost of £6 million.
