The Nissan Micra range has been updated for 2019 with a new engine, a new automatic gearbox, a new, sporty trim level called N-Sport and a new warm hatch variant.

Available now, the new Micra uses a new turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol, which replaces the old model’s 0.9-litre unit. Nissan claims that the new engine offers better fuel economy, lower emissions and increased performance, thanks mainly to a redesigned catalytic converter and revised turbochargers.

As a result, the new Micra’s power has risen by 10bhp over the outgoing model to 99bhp, and the torque figure has jumped from 150Nm to 160Nm.

Nissan also claims economy and emissions ratings of 50.4mpg and 103 – 105 g/km of CO2 respectively; an improvement over the 0.9-litre engine’s 47.1mpg and 116 – 130g/km of CO2.

The Micra’s new 1.0-litre petrol engine comes fitted as standard with a five-speed manual gearbox or, buyers can now spec a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Nissan has also introduced a “warm hatch” version of the Micra, powered by an all-new turbocharged 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Producing 115bhp and 180Nm of torque, it’s capable of propelling the Micra from 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds.

The most powerful Micra comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a re-tuned and lowered suspension set-up and a quicker steering rack. As an added benefit, the “warm” Micra also comes with an “overboost” function, which adds an additional 20Nm of torque at the push of a button.

The new 115bhp engine option is available on Acenta and Tekna cars, but it also teams up with a new trim line called N-Sport.

Available across the entire range, the package adds a carbon-fibre-style finish for the mirror caps and alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, front fog-lamps, Alcantara sports seats, keyless entry and start and N-Sport badging.

Pricing and full specifications for the latest Nissan Micra are yet to be announced, but we’ll update you with the latest information once it’s available.
