Historic Spanish coachbuilder, Hispano Suiza, has teased its all-new, all-electric grand tourer ahead of its 2019 Geneva Motor Show reveal. The Hispano Suiza Carmen is a new GT car, which supposedly draws influence from the firm’s 1938 Dubonnet Xenia coupe.
Designed and built in Barcelona, Spain, the Carmen will be constructed around a hand-laid carbon fibre monocoque, which Hispano Suiza says will offer both comfort and performance. The teaser image above reveals it will take the form of a two-door coupe with a sloping roofline.
Power comes courtesy of a custom-designed electric powertrain, developed by Spanish technology firm QEV. The company has a history of EV drivetrain design, boasting partnerships with Campos Racings and the Mahindra Formula-E racing team.
Performance details for the company’s latest automotive venture are yet to be made public. Pricing information is still unconfirmed, too, although Hispano Suiza has said that only 19 examples will be built, with pre-orders being taken now.
Hispano Suiza was founded in 1904, building 12,000 luxury performance cars (including the Dubonnet Xenia) and 50,000 aeroplane engines. The company went dormant in 1946, returning in 2000 with a prototype supercar called the HS21.
