Nissan has lowered the price of its lesser-powered all-electric Leaf in honour of “Christmas Jumper Day” 2019

The price of the 40kWh Nissan Leaf range has been lowered by £1,650 in honour of “Christmas Jumper Day” 2019. As such, the entry-level Leaf Acenta’s base-price now stands at £26,345, while the highly specced Tekna model is now priced from £29,345.

Nissan’s pricing restructure means that all variants of the 40kWh Leaf now fall within the sub-£30,000 P11D price bracket for company car drivers, along with the zero per cent benefit-in-kind tax on electric vehicles due to be introduced in April 2020.

The update also brings with it a handful of equipment upgrades including new LED foglamps with cornering function on the range-topping Tekna model and a pair of rear-seat USB ports for all model variants.

The 40kWh Nissan Leaf develops 148bhp and 320Nm of torque, which is fed to the front wheels via a single-speed automatic transmission. The motor gives the hatchback a 0–62mph time of 7.9 seconds and a maximum claimed WLTP range of 168 miles. When plugged into a 50kW fast-charger, an 80 per cent charge takes around 40 minutes

Since its introduction in 2010, the Leaf has been the world’s best selling electric vehicle with almost 440,000 units sold globally – 32,000 of which have found homes in the UK. Over the last year, the UK electric vehicle market has also more than doubled from 0.6 per cent in December 2018 to 1.5 per cent in November 2019.
