Renault has unveiled a striking new coupe concept design to be displayed at one of Paris' most distinctive villas. The Coupe Corbusier is the French firm's memorial for famous architect Le Corbusier, who died 50 years ago this year.
Best described as a design study rather than an actual production-previewing concept, the Corbusier is described as “a 21st century car inspired by the architect’s modernist principles and theories”. Le Corbusier himself is famed for designing modernist buildings around the world, including the Villa Savoye where the concept is displayed.
The car itself is a radical departure from Renault's road car range. It's long, sleek profile sits low to the ground, with a small glasshouse and bluff front-end. The bold grille design features geometric shapes, while the rear gets a futuristic full-length light design. The large doors are hinged at the rear and open upwards.
Unfortunately, we don't expect to see this or anything like it on the road any time soon. Renault has specified no powertrain details or engine dimensions, and like many concepts, this is purely designers showcasing what they can do.
