The production version of the new Suzuki Ignis may have only just debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show, but Suzuki is already looking to expand the model range. This is the Ignis Trail concept and it previews a beefed up and more off-road inspired version of the new small car.

It features classic 4x4 cues such as larger alloy wheels, some chunky body cladding and roof rails. The ride has also been jacked up, while red exterior detailing further marks it out from the standard model.

When the Trial concept makes the switch from concept car to production car, it’s expect to adopt the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines currently available in the Celerio city car, although there has been no confirmation as yet. There should also be manual and automatic gearboxes on offer, too

Suzuki is yet to announce pricing for the standard Ignis, but it’s expected to be priced between the Celerio and Swift so a price tag below £10,000 is on the cards. It’s likely the Ignis Trail will be sold at a small premium over the standard model.
