The New York International Auto Show was North America’s first ever motor show, and is now one of the longest-running motoring events on the planet. These days it might not be one of the biggest shows around, with expos in China and Europe getting the lion's share of new car reveals, but there's still plenty to see at the 2016 event in the Big Apple.
Held in the Jacob Javits Convention Center in the heart of Manhattan, the New York Motor Show is still attended by huge numberds of US car fans and buyers. It will feature lots of new US-only cars as well as a few global debuts. Plus, of course, some wonderful and weird specialist cars created by tuners and niche manufacturers from around the world.
We'll be reporting live from the New York show, which runs from 25 March to 3 April 2016, with all the news and new cars brought to you right here on this page. For now, you can read through what we're expecting to appear on the show stands on press day below...
Jaguar F-Type SVR
The New York show will be the first time we see the Jaguar F-Type SVR in motion, as well as hear its engine roar, as it's set to make its US debut in the tunnels of the famous city.
Mazda MX-5 hard-top
Mazda will be bringing a special new sports car along to the New York show, and we expect it to be a version of the new MX-5 featuring a folding hard-top roof. Just like the previous-gen Roadster Coupe hard top it will help keep the elements at bay, but will fold down to keep the open-top thrills intact for days when the sun is out. We'll have more details when the covers are taken off at the show.
Mercedes-AMG E43
We've already driven the impressive Mercedes E-Class, and now the brand is planning a top-spec AMG-branded model under the E43 name. With its twin-turbo V6 it can go from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds, making sure it's worthy of the AMG branding. A limited top speed of 155mph matches its bigger brothers in the AMG stable, too.
MINI JCW Convertible
If the racy MINI Cooper S Convertible is a bit too plain for you then why not try the JCW version? It uses a 2.0-litre turbo engine with 228bhp, sending it from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. That's a whole lot of wind in your hair as, of course, it features a folding fabric roof as well - perfect for summer.
Nissan GT-R
Nissan continues to update its GT-R halo supercar, and at New York we'll see a handful of updates for the 2016 model. There's no word yet on what the changes will be, but we expect tweaks to the chassis and engine to make it better, and faster, to drive than ever.
Subaru Impreza
The new Subaru Impreza is set for a reveal at the New York show, and while it's a niche model in the UK the US market will be eagerly anticipating the new car. The new Impreza is important for Subaru's whole range, however, as it will incorporate new engines and chassis parts for a new range of crossovers including the updated XV.
