There are plenty of events on the motoring calendar worthy of note, but the Paris Motor Show (otherwise known as Mondial de l'Automobile) is one of the biggest around. Held every two years (on rotation with the equally prestigious Frankfurt Motor Show) the Paris show has the distinction of being the most popular motor show on the planet - it welcomed over 1.2 million visitors in 2014 and the 2016 event could be even bigger.

The giant Paris expo Porte de Versailles exhibition hosts the show as usual this year and it's open to the public between the dates of October 1st and October 16th 2016. You can buy tickets for the Paris Motor Show now on the official website but rest assure that we've already got ours for the press preview days on September 29th and 30th - as usual, they'll be two of the busiest days in the calendar for new car launches and breaking news.

Paris Motor Show 2016: manufacturer A to Z

Abarth

Abarth attending the Paris Motor Show means another display of the Abarth 124 (which has been available to pre-order since March) is on the cards.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa is expected to show its upcoming Stelvio SUV at the show, which we've only seen disguised for testing so far. Also making the trip to Paris is the new Giulia which goes on sale this summer alongside its M3-fighting Quadrifoglio (QV) version.

Audi

The new Q5 SUV is confirmed for Paris and the A5 Sportback is very likely to appear on Audi’s stand too, packing improved tech and an updated design that will match the styling cues now seen on the rest of the Audi range. Other models that we will see at the show include the TT RS, the R8 Spyder, the Q2 and the SQ7.

BMW

BMW has a number of cars coming within the next couple of years, any of which could appear at this year’s Paris show, including an all-new 5 Series plus the third-generation X3. Another potential from BMW is an i8 Spyder that was recently confirmed to start production within the next few years.

Citroen

Paris is not only the home of the upcoming motor show, but also French manufacturer Citroen, meaning big things can be expected from them in October. It’s been confirmed that the new C4 Cactus-inspired C3 will make its public debut at the show featuring a completely redesigned dashboard with lots of new technology, including the in-built dashboard camera. The new C3 will have a start price of around £11,000.

Dacia

The Romanian company has not announced any brand new cars lately that we might see in Paris; however updates to existing models in the Dacia range have been regular over the last few months, meaning the latest version of each Dacia car will be on display.

Ferrari

At the end of last month, Ferrari announced that 150 examples of a LaFerrari Spider would be produced, to become available in 2017. A highly anticipated car that will only be available to select Ferrari customers, the LaFerrari Spider would be a big attraction if it debuts at Paris.

Honda

A new, more exciting Civic is confirmed to be attending the Paris Motor Show in October and is big news for Honda. The new Civic is set to be bigger and sportier than its predecessor, with a more striking design, more practical rear end and bigger wheels as well. Two brand new engines will be available; turbocharged 1.0 and 1.5 VTEC petrol motors are debuting in the new Civic, while a heavily revised 1.6 i-DTEC diesel will also feature.

Hyundai

With two new models coming in October and early 2017, Hyundai are likely to be showing us a lot more of what they’ll be about in Paris. The Ioniq is a Prius rivalling eco hatchback with an option of petrol-hybrid and full electric coming in October, and a plug-in hybrid version coming in early 2017. The i30N, also expected to be at the show, will be a more budget alternative to a Ford Focus ST – a hot hatch that is still practical and efficient.

Jeep

Potentially making an appearance could be the new Jeep Wrangler. With only spyshots and no official details to go on at the moment it seems as though the Wrangler’s updated version could hit markets in 2017 and so might be making its world debut in Paris.

Kia

The most highly anticipated car Kia is bringing to the show is the GT, a four door sports saloon expected to feature a 2.2 litre diesel with 197bhp which it will put through the rear wheels. Think of it as a budget Porsche Panamera as the GT is estimated to only cost £30,000 when it arrives in showrooms in 2017. The Optima GT, Optima Station Wagon (SW) and Niro Hybrid will also be at Paris this year.

Land Rover

The 2017 Discovery will be at Paris and it will be one of the key cars to look out for. The space inside the cabin will grow while the weight figure of the whole car will shrink thanks to the use of more aluminium in the sleeker design. This lighter-weight SUV will likely be powered by a 60+mpg four cylinder diesel, a V6 diesel or a petrol-electric hybrid. While the square design of the old Discovery will be lost in favour of the Discovery Sport’s styling cues, the revised version of the off-road Terrain Response system will remain. The new Discovery is predicted to roll into dealerships in early 2017 priced from around £45,000.

Lexus

After making its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Lexus LC 500 Coupe will show itself at the Paris Motor Show ahead of the 2017 release date. Alongside it could be an unveiling of a new Lexus LS, which our spy photographers managed to snap back in May as testing began.

Maserati

Back in 2014, Maserati bosses told the world that a replacement for the GranTurismo was set for a late 2017 release. Known as the Alfieri, it will be a rival to the Jaguar F Type and Porsche 911 with a 513bhp V6 and an estimated price tag of £60,000. As it is still on course to arrive in 2017, a debut at Paris is possible.

Mercedes

Mercedes has several new cars emerging soon which may feature at the Paris Motor Show; a roadster variant of the AMG GT along with another crossover called the GLB that will slot perfectly into the gap between the GLC and GLA. A concept of Merc’s all-electric SUV planned for 2019 production is also speculated to be at the Paris Motor Show.

MINI

The popular MINI Countryman has been subject of a restyling job that should be shown to the public at Paris. Spy photographers for Auto Express managed to catch a hot John Cooper Works (JCW) version of this refreshed of Countryman too. The standard model is expected to inherit the same three and four cylinder petrol and diesel engines of the Clubman.

Mitsubishi

The main focus from Mitsubishi at Paris will be a new mid-sized hybrid SUV. The concept is named the Grand Tourer, it is meant to fit in-between the ASX and the Outlander. Teased by Mitsubishi before the summer, the Grand Tourer is likely to be a sleek 5 door SUV that resembles a Range Rover Evoque.

Nissan

Two cars that can be expected at the Paris Motor Show from Nissan are the new Micra and a facelifted Qashqai. A new style Micra has been long due as other manufacturers’ superminis have been pulling away in sales numbers in recent times. The facelifted Qashqai looks to come with few visual changes, along with Nissan’s new autonomous functionality.

Peugeot

Confirmed to debut at the Paris Motor Show from Peugeot is the 3008 – a mid-sized SUV that will take on the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage. This is a highly anticipated addition to Peugeot’s range due to the dramatic changes to the styling and interior tech. The engine range is also now more expansive, with an option of two petrols and two diesels and a variety of manual and automatic gearboxes. Furthermore, a plug-in hybrid will be on its way in 2019.

Porsche

An all new Panamera will debut from Porsche at Paris. The second-generation model has been restyled to resemble a 911, with a new range of engines including a new V6 petrol, V8 diesel and flagship V8 turbo. The new Panamera will also be more practical in terms of boot space than the old model and with an estate ‘Sport Turismo’ variant on the way later in 2017. The new Panamera will arrive in UK dealers in early 2017 carrying an £88,700 price tag for the base model – the V6 twin-turbo 4S.

Renault

The new Clio and the brand new Alaskan pick-up are set to debut at Paris. The Clio is predicted to go on sale in the autumn for an estimated £11,500 with key changes to the suspension and drivetrain as well as a restyled set of front and rear lights. The Alaskan is based on Nissan’s Navara with a similar switchable four-wheel-drive system. Taking a 187bhp diesel engine from Renault’s van range, the Alaskan is estimated to go on sale late this year carrying a £22,000 price tag.

SEAT

SEAT will showcase an exciting new concept at Paris, with a 300bhp Ateca Cupra the likely candidate. A new Ibiza supermini and Ibiza SUV are also in the pipeline, but a reveal at the Geneva Motor Show in March is more likely.

Skoda

Easily the most anticipated Skoda in a while is the new Kodiaq – a large SUV one size up from the Yeti. After being spotted track testing by photographers earlier in June, it has been confirmed that the production Kodiaq will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show. A hybrid version has been announced for 2019.

Smart

The recent release of new Smart models is now set to be followed up by the unveiling of fully electric versions of both the ForTwo and ForFour. Both cars will appear in showrooms early in 2017 and the electric ForTwo will be available in convertible form as well. The cars will be debuted publically at the Paris Motor Show in October along with the world debut of the Brabus enhanced ForTwo that goes on sale soon after the show.

SsangYong

A new SsangYong Rexton is to be previewed at the Paris Motor Show this year in concept form, aiming itself at the Hyundai Santa Fe. This will provide an idea of what the production Rexton will look like when it is made available for customer purchase in 2017.

Suzuki

Suzuki’s Ignis is a Nissan Juke rivalling crossover with an expected release date of spring 2017. Expected to make an appearance at the Paris Motor Show, quirky styling and the option of four wheel drive may give it an advantage over immediate rivals and appearing in the Paris show would only increase the car’s popularity. A new Swift expected to come in 2017, followed by a Swift Sport in 2018 could also be in Paris for the show.

Tesla

Tesla has already received approximately 373,000 pre-orders for the Model 3, meaning there will be plenty of potential customers eager to learn more from Tesla at the Paris Motor Show.

Toyota

Toyota’s main exhibit in Paris is likely to be the new C-HR SUV. Yet another car that Toyota is making with the option of having a hybrid engine, the C-HR will rival the Nissan Qashqai. The C-HR is set for an autumn 2016 release, making the Paris Motor Show the perfect opportunity to show off some of its key features and main selling points.

Vauxhall

A new Insignia is estimated for release in the middle of 2017, therefore meaning it has a chance of appearing at the Paris Motor Show in October. Expected to grow both inside and out, the Insignia looks to be a sleeker and more curvaceous refresh of the now eight year-old current Insignia. It is also expected to lose around 200kg and is set to be updated with the latest in Vauxhall engines with new technology and safety equipment. The new Insignia has been given an estimated £20,000 price and so will provide a much cheaper alternative to the equally curvy Volkswagen CC.

Volkswagen

A new Touareg is on the way in 2017, and a concept called the T-Prime has been shown as a preview of what it will look like. Either the production Touareg or T-Prime could be put on show in Paris this autumn. Another car that is very likely to appear for Volkswagen in the Paris Motor Show is a facelifted Golf which is anticipated to be released in early 2017. Something that Volkswagen has claimed will be out in the winter is the Golf R400, a 396bhp Golf that could crack 0-62mph in four seconds.
