Maybach is making a comeback with a new concept car that could hint at the future direction for the brand - and it appears to be a very long-wheelbase coupe.
The concept car will make its debut at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next week, and the darkened teaser image released today shows a long, sleek coupe shape. It's a long way from the stately Maybach S600 version of the Mercedes S-Class, with a flowing roofline and long bonnet.

It's clearly a two-door model, although the long body may mean it houses four seats, rather than being a two-seater sports car. It looks a little like a stretched-out Mercedes S-Class Coupe from the side profile, but the statement supplied with the car suggests otherwise: "hot & cool - Almost 6 metres of ultimate luxury".
A length of nearly six metres suggests that it's a modern interpretation of 2004's Excelero, which was a V12 sports car in turn based on the idea of a modern 1930s luxury car. While a car that large is unlikely to make it onto the road, Maybach could be stating an intention to take on cars such as the Bentley Continental GT and Porsche Panamera.
We'll have more details and pictures of the concept car over the next week until it's unveiled on Thursday the 18th at the Pebble Beach show in California.
