While sister brand Infiniti is showcasing its QX50 SUV concept at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show, Nissan has unveiled the Vmotion 2.0. It's a driverless saloon concept that preview's Nissan's ProPILOT technology.

Built to showcase both Nissan's shifting design language and the developments in the brand's autonomous driving system, the Vmotion 2.0 features a heavily enlarged version of the brand's new grille - first shown on the new Micra

The angular shape previews a potential future Maxima replacing large saloon, with edgy surfacing, sharp-looking LED lights and creased bodywork. Wide wheelarches and chunky alloys are typical concept car add-ons, but where this concept does stand out is with the rear suicide doors and lack of a B-pillar.

Nissan to expand autonomous driving tech with next-gen Leaf

The interior design is said to be aimed at "tomorrow's busy professionals". To that end, there's a large central infotainment screen that runs the length of the dash, a half-height rectangular steering wheel, quilted leather, a 'Zebra' wood floor and a full-length centre console that houses a tablet for rear-seat passengers.

The meat of the concept centres around its autonomous capability. Showcasing the ProPILOT system that will eventually feature across Nissan's passenger car range, it's capable of full autonomy and control not just on the motorway but in cities, too.

The Japanese brand hasn't outlined what actually powers the Vmotion 2.0 yet, and as such it's unlikely to preview anything production ready. If it was intended to preview the next-generation Maxima, then that isn't even sold in Europe.
