Lamborghini has a new track-bred convertible supercar in the works. Our spy photographers have snapped what looks like a drop-top version of the new Huracan Performante undergoing testing. The pics confirm that a Spyder variant of the hardcore Huracan – the firm’s star car at the Geneva Motor Show last month – is on the way.
While the Huracan Performance Spyder wears zebra-print masking, it’s hardly a heavy disguise. The more aggressive bodywork of the Performante is on display and in plain sight, inducing the large rear wing at the back. Aerodynamic efficiency and performance is a huge aspect of the Huracan Performante – Lamborghini has championed active aero technology heavily, going part of the way as to explain why the 5.2-litre, V10 powered, 631bhp supercar is the new production vehicle Nurburgring lap record holder.
With a laptime of 6:52.01s, the Huracan Performance coupe knocked the Porsche 918 Spyder off the top step of the ‘Green Hell’ leaderboard earlier this year, beating the Porsche hybrid hypercar by just under five seconds.
The Huracan Performante Spyder will probably be a little slower on track – its fabric hood will likely increase drag, while further chassis strengthening to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof will increase weight. However, it shouldn’t lag too far behind the 2.9 second 0-62mph dash and 202mph top speed of its coupe sibling.
It will cost more though – a premium over the £210,000 price of the coupe should mean the Huracan Performante Spyder costs around £230,000 when it arrives later this year.
