Porsche has confirmed a track-only Cayman GT4 Clubsport will debut at the 2015 LA Motor Show in November. Developed by Porsche's Motorsport division, the Clubsport will go on sale following its unveiling in LA.

Restricted to the track only, the GT4 Clubsport will be homologated for various race series' around the world before the end of the year. The Clubsport is 40kg lighter than the road car at 1,300kg, thanks to a stripped-out cabin with a driver's bucket seat, six-point harness and welded-in roll cage. It also gets the lighter front suspension setup from the 911 GT3 cup race car.

Alongside the usual motorsport changes, the Clubsport also brings in a PDK dual-clutch gearbox – the road car is available as a manual only.

Yet, mechanically it's relatively unchanged. It uses the same 380bhp 3.8-litre flat six engine, rear-wheel drive and a mechanical locking diff as the GT4. It does come fitted with larger race-spec 380mm steel brakes, however.

The use of the 'Clubsport' name also keeps open the opportunity for an even more extreme road-going version of the GT4 in the near future. The Clubsport nameplate has been used on track versions of Porsche models for decades.
