Fiat Chrysler has revealed its 2017 CES concept ahead of the official unveiling later today. The Portal Concept is an futuristic electric minivan that's said to be "created by millennials for millennials".
The images show a vehicle slightly smaller than Chrysler's own Pacifica minivan, but the look is a radical adaptation of the traditional MPV format. A large glass area features, as do distinctive LED light bars front and rear that run in a rectangular shape. The most distinctive feature is the double sliding doors that open up in opposite directions with glass lower portions and LED accents.
Inside, the Portal concept has a minimalist dash design, with an LCD display that runs across from the instrument binnacle right into the passsenger's eyeline. There's also a large central touchscreen, and all displays are fully configurable. There are six aircraft-style seats, as FCA is aiming for a lounge-style feel, using synthetic leather which is more environmentally friendly.
All we know about the electric powertrain is that a range of 250 miles is claimed, and quick charging tech allows 150 miles of that to be recouped in under 20 minutes. The Portal comes with Level 3 autonomous driving capability, with hardware for an upgrade to Level 4 autonomy in due course. No date for a production model has been revealed yet, however.
